For our 6th anniversary we headed up to Saltspring for a little fall fair and a final summer sail. Besides one broken finger, the trip was a wonderful little slice of family.
One moment in particular: We were standing and waiting for the shuttle bus from Ganges to pick us up from the fairgrounds to head back. It was our anniversary day, September 20th. The fair had been wonderful…small rides for the kids, lots of homespun exhibits, and not a corndog in sight (only rainbow wontons and island lamb). Up pulls the bus and from the open windows floats:
As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good old way
And who shall wear the starry crown
Good Lord, show me the way !
O sisters let’s go down,
Let’s go down, come on down,
O sisters let’s go down,
Down in the river to pray.
As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good old way
And who shall wear the robe and crown
Good Lord, show me the way !
O brothers let’s go down,
Let’s go down, come on down,
Come on brothers let’s go down,
Down in the river to pray…
It returned me to our wedding ceremony on that rocky outcropping where Michele sang for us and we all cried together. Thank you, Michele. And thank you everyone who made that journey to be with us as we embarked on our big adventure together. I didn’t have any idea that such trial and wonder waited right around the bend.

Happy Anniversary!
I love that song…. what wonderful pics.
