Serene grounds, vaguely European, silence except for the crunching of gravel and dripping moss gardens. A short ferry ride outside Seattle, it’s worth the short trip. I’m not sure where they house the army of gardeners that must keep that place weeded and tidy, but we didn’t see a soul. This time of year is wonderful in the garden, this and that peeking out and promises of blooms in weeks to come. We saw some rhodies just opening and cyclamen unfurled. The moss was at it’s prime – glowing bright green.

Leif had an exquisite day collecting alder cones and bits of lichen. Io slept some in the backpack and was lured down trails with cheddar bunnies. Us grown ups got some respite from a messy house and a long work week ahead. It was a wonderful Sunday indeed.
